Background on the change
It’s not yet clear why they’re making this change, but with the iPhone 14 models being discontinued, it’s possible that Apple is introducing the new rear chassis process to the cheaper SE models for economic reasons. The camera system may also change in the fourth-generation iPhone SE. The new SE model is expected to feature a redesigned, customized backplate and a single 48-megapixel rear camera.
Similarities to iPhone 16
The iPhone 16, due out this fall, is expected to feature a new vertical camera lens, as opposed to the diagonal camera lens setup of its predecessor, the iPhone 15. This is expected to allow the iPhone 16 to shoot video for the Vision Pro headset. If the iPhone SE 4 adopts the same backplate as the iPhone 16, it could potentially offer a dual-camera setup.
Key changes in iPhone SE 4
The iPhone SE 4 is expected to replace TouchID and the Home button with FaceID and a display notch, and the screen size is also expected to increase from 4.7 inches to 6.1 inches. A USB-C port and action buttons are also expected to be added.
The iPhone SE 4 is expected to have a starting price of less than $500.
iPhone SE 4 Consumer Demand Forecast
Its predecessor, the iPhone SE 3, was released in March 2022.
