What’s new on the Google Pixel Watch 3
New features that are expected to be included in Google’s next smartwatch, the Pixel Watch 3 series, have been spotted in Wear OS 5. In particular, two new technologies are of interest: ultra-wideband (UWB) and Bluetooth LE audio.
Utilizing UWB technology
The Pixel Watch 3’s UWB technology was recently spotted in a U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) certification document.
The technology is expected to allow you to find your lost device using Google’s Find My Device app or unlock your car with a digital car key.
Bluetooth LE audio support
The Pixel Watch 3 will also be the first smartwatch to feature Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) audio.
Bluetooth LE is a low-energy version of Bluetooth, and it can be connected to Internet of Things (IoT) devices equipped with small batteries. Using Bluetooth LE audio protocol, you can increase the time you stream music from your smartwatch – and it will be available for a longer time by reducing power consumption.
Added the Find My Device feature
This feature allows you to remotely locate your device and perform various actions even when you’re not online, and the Find My Device service utilizes Google Play Services to make it easy to connect between different devices. This indicates that the Pixel Watchis compatible with other Wear OS devices. Therefore, it seems likely that Google will extend this feature to other Wear OS devices. Additionally, work is ongoing to improve network tracking accuracy, which will likely come to other Wear OS devices in the future.
Pixel Watch 3 model lineup and color options
The Pixel Watch 3 series will be available in 41mm and 45mm sizes for the first time, and specifically, the 45mm model may come under the name ‘Pixel Watch 3 XL’. It comes in four strap color options – hazel, Obsidian, Pink, and Forslin – and the 45mm version is available in Hazel, Obsidian, and Forslin colors.
European price analysis
The European price of the Pixel Watch 3 is expected to go up. The 41mm version of the Wi-Fi model is expected to cost €399, while the LTE model is expected to cost €499. Additionally, the 45mm version of the Wi-Fi model will be available for €449, while the LTE model will be available for €549.
Compared to the price of its predecessor, the Pixel Watch 2, this represents a price increase of around €50 to €100.
Samsung recently launched the Galaxy Watch 7 for €319, and if the leaked price of the Pixel Watch 3 is accurate, the Galaxy Watch 7 could be a much better option.
