Information about Samsung’s new interface One UI 7 has been revealed via Indian IT outlet SmartPrix. The update includes a number of icon designs and UI changes.

New icon design

As reported by SmartPrix, One UI 7 will change the design of app icons for Gallery, Contacts, Clock, Weather, Phone, Messages, Samsung Browser, Camera, and more. The squiggle shape has been retained, but the detailed design of each icon will be updated. Here’s a breakdown of the icon design changes

  • The Gallery icon retains the traditional flower shape, but each petal has a different color, and the background color is replaced with white.
  • The address book icon now has three new colors: red, orange, and pink, with a mountain in the center.
  • The clock icon now has separate colors for the hour and minute hands, and the background color has been changed to gray.
  • The Weather app icon is similar in design to the clouds and sun, but the lines representing the light sources have been removed.
  • The Phone app icon has a similar shape to the handset with a green base, but the background color has been increased in brightness and the shape of the handset has been sharpened.
  • The Messages app icon changed to that of Google Messages, not Samsung Messages.
  • The Samsung browser icon changed the background color to a gradient blue, the orientation of the Saturn rings changed, and the color of the rings was lighter than the background.
  • The Camera app icon has changed from a design that depicts the entire camera to one that emphasizes the camera lens.

Basic UI changes

In One UI 7, there are changes to the default UI, including the Settings app. The background color is gray, and a rounded square panel has been added to the touch area. Previously, in One UI 6, the panel went all the way to the end of the screen, but in One UI 7, the panel has been reduced in size so that the background is also visible on the left and right.

Change the battery icon

The battery icon also changes. Like the battery icon in mi UI or iOS, it will now be a horizontal battery shape with a number in the center showing the battery percentage.

Add a Dynamic Island-like feature

In One UI 7, we’re adding a feature similar to the Dynamic Island. It’s a pill-shaped dynamic icon in the top bar that lets you check the status of other apps without leaving the app you’re using. It doesn’t wrap around the punch like Dynamic Island in iOS, and you’ll still have to touch it to see the time, even when it’s running a stopwatch.

New icons and quick panels

New icons for theme apps and the Samsung Assistant have been added. The Quick panel has a blurred background with a translucent black rounded rectangle wrapped around the panel, and the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth icons at the top have been changed to pill shapes. We’ve also added a new volume control panel.

Improving animations

One of the things we’re most excited about in the One UI 7 update is the improvement in animations. They weren’t great before, but they improved inOne UI 6.1. However, there are still issues with sluggish responses and dropped frames, so I’m looking forward to seeing even greater improvements in One UI 7.
