hello. This is Technologytodaynow. Since the launch of the iPad Pro with Apple’s new M4 chipset in May, the iPad Pro 7th generation has been selling consistently well, with high satisfaction rates. The M4 chipset is also gaining traction in the Mac series, with Mark Gurman recently confirming that the MacBook Air, Mac Studio, Mac Mini, Mac Pro, and MacBook Pro will be released with the M4 chipset in 2025.
What to Expect from the Mac Series with the M4 Chipset
The two Mac series that are expected to launch this year are the MacBook Pro and iMac. These lineups are expected to receive the M4 update along with the Lightning accessories change to USB-C for the Magic Mouse, Magic Trackpad, and Magic Keyboard. In other words, in addition to the M4 chipset, there will be a performance update that will be more than just a change to USB-C-enabled accessories.
Changes to the M4 Mac Mini that you should pay attention to
Of particular note is the new Mac Mini with the M4 chipset. The Mac Mini was last released in 2023 with the M2 chipset, and while many people have been waiting for a Mac Mini with the M3 chipset, the next generation Mac Mini will move beyond the M3 chip and return with the M4 chipset.
Notably, unlike the rest of the lineup, the M4 Mac Mini is expected to get a complete redesign.
Design changes to the Mac Mini
While most of the Mac lineup has gotten a redesign since the launch of Apple’s silicon, the Mac Mini hasn’t seen much change since 2010, with the exception of a DVD drive and a change in ports.
With the Mac series getting a redesign every four to five years, it’s expected that the Mac Mini will see a change this time around. However, the form factor itself doesn’t seem to be deviating from the big picture of staying rounded and square. It would be nice to see a variety of colors, but it will most likely stay a solid silver.
Performance and value for money
We’ve been supporting pro chipsets since the M2 chipset, so you can expect to see the M4 pro chipset as well.
Because it supports relatively affordable and powerful performance, it will be the perfect cost-effective model for working on Apple intelligence in the new macOS Sequoia.
Estimated price and release schedule
The estimated price is likely to remain at $599, the starting price of the M2 Mac Mini. Importantly, the direction of sales will be determined by the performance differences between the M4 Pro Mac Mini and M4 Mac Studios.
