Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo noted that the most notable iPhone 17 series model is the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Coming exclusively to the Pro Max, 12GB of RAM is expected to significantly split the performance gap between the other models. The iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, and iPhone 17 Pro will all come with 8GB of RAM, but the iPhone 17 Pro Max is expected to have more powerful performance with 12GB of RAM.
In addition, the Promax models will have an improved cooling system, and the Promax models with vapor chambers are expected to have improved cooling performance. The remaining models are expected to retain the existing graphite sheet.
Disappointment with differentiation from pro models and vape chamber installation
With the iPhone 17 series, Apple is differentiating the amount of RAM between the Pro and Pro Max models for the first time. While the difference in camera performance can be explained by differences in size and internal component space, additional differences such as RAM capacity may disappoint consumers by giving only the iPhone 17 Pro Max a higher performance advantage.
Additionally, another differentiator of the iPhone 17 Pro Max, the vapor chamber, is expected to improve gaming performance, but will likely only be available on the Pro Max model. This is a feature that many gamers are looking forward to, but it would be disappointing if it’s only on the Pro Max.
iPhone 17 Pro Max and Pro models’ sharp differences and reduced purchasing merit
Apple’s intelligence, along with the 12GB of RAM in the iPhone 17 series, will be the main selling point for the Pro Max. However, in some countries, such as South Korea, the smaller Pro models sell more than the Pro Max. So this differentiator may be a turn-off for consumers in some countries.
