Differences you need to know before buying iPhone 16
iPhone 16 Purchase Points
The iPhone 16 series looks similar to its predecessor, the iPhone 15, but there are quite a few differences when you look under the hood for upgrades. First off, you don’t necessarily have to buy the iPhone 16 Pro model. That’s because the regular iPhone 16 model has been upgraded quite a bit.
Both the regular and Pro models use the same generation of the A18 chipset, with 8GB of RAM for Wi-Fi 7, action buttons, new camera controls, and Apple’s AI features.
Because of this similarity, many advanced features can be enjoyed on the regular model.
However, as we’ve mentioned before, the Pro model still offers a 120hz promotional display and Always on display (AOD), so you’ll want to consider your personal usage patterns when making your purchase.
iPhone 16 camera differences
Apple has created a tiered division between regular and pro models based on user usage patterns, and the camera is a key part of that. It’s true that the iPhone 16 regular model offers camera controls and overall improvements to the camera. However, there is a significant difference between the upgrades available on the iPhone Pro. And that’s the core camera sensor, and the iPhone 16 regular lineup has the same sensor that’s in the iPhone 14 Pro lineup and the iPhone 15 regular lineup.
On the other hand, all iPhone 16 Pro lineups are known to be equipped with new sensors.
What many people are curious about is whether Sony’s IMX 903 is on board, and it is difficult to determine until it is disassembled and confirmed after release.
However, in the market, there is a sharp conflict between the claim that the sensor is an upgraded sensor of the previous model and that it is a completely new sensor.
But I personally don’t think they would have kept the sensor from the previous model. And there is reportedly no difference in the camera sensor between the Pro and Pro Max. The camera now offers 5x optical zoom on both the Pro and Pro Max, which gives you more flexibility with your photos and videos.
Difference between charging speed and USB speed
There are other differences between the iPhone 16 regular lineup and the iPhone 16 Pro lineup. USB-C on the iPhone 16 regular models is USB 2.0. This is too old to be used in Fall 2024. The Pro supports USB 3.0, which is up to 20 times faster than 2.0 at full speed.
However, the charging function was upgraded to 50% charging in 30 minutes, and if Mac Safe uses a wireless charger of 30W or more, it can be charged up to 25W, so the wireless charging speed can be charged faster than the existing 15W.
And the best part is that the difference in performance between the A18 and A18 Pro chipsets is not significant.
Except for Apple Intelligence, a regular model would never have an A18 chipset and 8GB of RAM. In conclusion, except for the 60Hz display and USB 2.0, the iPhone 16 standard model has tremendous performance, so if you’re in a tight budget, you don’t have to go to the pro lineup.
Recommended models in the Pro lineup
And if you’re wondering about the difference between the iPhone 16 Pro and the ProMax, there are three main differences. Screen size, weight, and battery capacity. If I were to recommend one or the other, this year I would recommend the iPhone 16 Pro. The Pro Max offers a larger screen, a larger screen, and longer battery life. However, it weighs more, which can be hard on the wrist for extended use. If you’re considering buying a Pro Max for the first time, I’d definitely recommend considering the weight and your lifestyle.
