Can the Galaxy S26 series solve the battery life issue?
Galaxy S Edge May Be Included in Regular Lineup
According to preliminary information released before the Galaxy S25 Edge was released, this model will likely serve as a gauge of market reaction. If the response to the Galaxy S25 Edge is positive, there is a possibility that the Galaxy S Edge model will be released as part of the regular lineup, like the iPhone releasing the iPhone 17 Air in place of the under-selling Plus model.
Battery capacity disappointment
However, there is a catch with the Galaxy S25. It comes with a lower battery capacity of 3,900mAh. Currently, silicon-carbon batteries are actively used in smartphones made by Chinese manufacturers. Launched in October 2024, the Xiaomi 15 Pro is equipped with a silicon-carbon battery, offering a large battery capacity of 6,100mAh, while being thinner and lighter than its predecessor by about 10 grams.
Realme’s Neo 7 is equipped with a 7,000 mAh battery, an increase of 1,500 mAh in battery capacity, despite the thickness being reduced by 0.1 mm. Additionally, Oppo’s next-generation foldable smartphone, the Find N5, which is scheduled to be released soon, is expected to reach a thickness of 4.0mm when unfolded, making it the thinnest foldable smartphone ever. If silicon carbon batteries are applied to the Galaxy S26 series, the edge model is expected to have a battery capacity similar to that of the main series.
Expectations of Galaxy S26 Series Battery Performance
Despite its small size, the base model is expected to offer similar battery life to the plus model. And in the case of the ultra model, unlike in the fragmented days of the past, the note was simply renamed the ultra, so even users who didn’t use the S Pen had to choose the ultra model if they wanted the top model.
Therefore, one of the complaints of consumers who don’t use the S Pen among users who chose the Ultra was that removing the S Pen would allow more batteries to be installed as much as the S Pen storage space, increasing battery capacity and eventually increasing battery life. However, I think this complaint can be resolved if a silicon carbon battery can be installed to hold more than 6,000mAh of battery while maintaining the S Pen storage space.
