hello. This is Technologytodaynow. Google recently announced a major update to its AI-powered chatbot, Google Gemini. The update includes improving performance and significantly expanding service availability.
What’s in the Google Gemini 1.5 Flash Update
New lightweight model
First of all, a new lightweight multi-model called Google Gemini 1.5 Flash is introduced. It will be available on both mobile and desktop versions, and will be available via the web and mobile in 40 languages and 230 countries starting Thursday. According to Google, the Google Gemini 1.5 Flash has improved quality and response speed over its predecessor, especially in inference and image comprehension.
Expand the Context Pane
Of particular note is that Gemini’s context window expands to 32,000 tokens. This means that it can handle about 24,000 words or 48 pages of text, which means that users will be able to upload longer documents and ask Gemini to work on them.
Added the ability to link to related web content
In an effort to improve the accuracy of Gemini, Google has added a new feature that displays links to relevant web content below certain answers. This appears to be an attempt to reduce “hallucinations” where AI models generate information that is not true.
Expanding youth access
Another important change is that Google is expanding Gemini access, providing more opportunities for young people around the world. Previously, only students from some countries could sign up with a school account, but now teenagers from all countries and regions can use Gemini.
Teen User Protection Policy
Googleis developing new policies and safeguards to keep younger users safe.
Specifics are not yet available, but we’re told it will come with a new teen-specific onboarding process and an AI literacy guide.
