Apple Is Testing iPad Mini 8th Generation OLED Display Prototype
According to a report by the 9to5 Mac, a development prototype of the iPad mini with an OLED display currently exists. Apple is evaluating an OLED display prototype, which is said to be made from a Samsung display, which is a relatively inexpensive version of the OLED display, not the high-end Two-Stack Tendum OLED used in iPad Pro models.
However, it has not yet been decided whether the 120Hz promotion feature, which is important to users, will be installed.
How likely is it that 120Hz refresh rate will be applied?
Apple has been a bit stingy about the 120Hz refresh rate, and given their mention of a cheaper OLED display, it’s likely not going to be LTPO OLED.
Since the only OLED models that currently have a 120Hz refresh rate are those equipped with LTPO OLED, I think the iPad mini 8th generation will also maintain a 60Hz refresh rate.
Future prospects
If LTPO OLED is installed and supports 120Hz refresh rate, it seems that the iPhone 17 basic model and the iPhone 17 Air should support 120Hz first before the iPad mini can support 120Hz. Apple is gradually expanding its product line equipped with OLED displays. The iPad Air is also expected to adopt OLED, and according to this news, the iPad mini is also planned to be equipped with OLED.
