According to a report by Taiwanese IT media outlet Digi-Times, the iPhone 16 Pro series will adopt the new Wi-Fi 7 standard. Like the Wi-Fi 6E, Wi-Fi 7 utilizes all of the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz frequency bands, but it differs in that it uses each frequency band at the same time to process data. This can lead to several innovative performance improvements, such as increased processing speed and stable connection.
Incredible speed and efficiency
Wi-Fi 7 can deliver data transfer speeds of up to 40Gbps or higher, which is expected to provide users with a fast and seamless Internet experience like never before. This is about four times faster than Wi-Fi 6E on the iPhone 15, and the new standard allows for more efficient utilization of bandwidth through the use of up to 320 MHz bandwidth on the 6 GHz spectrum, 4K QAM adjustment, multi-link operations-based multi-bandwidth simultaneous connection, and multi-resource unit functions. It also significantly reduces latency and enables faster transfer of more data. This is expected to have significant benefits in combination with new technologies such as AR, VR, and 16K media streaming.
Why we’re excited about Wi-Fi 7
Jeff Fu, an analyst at HiTong International Securities, also predicted in August last year that the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max would support Wi-Fi 7. Previous model supported Wi-Fi 6E, and iPhone 11-14 used Wi-Fi 6 technology.
If the iPhone 16 adopts the latest Wi-Fi standards, innovation in wireless connectivity technology is expected, which is expected to have a positive impact on Apple Intelligence as well. For example, performance of real-time applications, such as voice assistants, can be improved with minimal latency.
We’ve learned about the news of Wi-Fi 7 support on the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Mac. While this is certainly good news, it’s a bit of a silver lining in that you won’t get those speeds unless you have a dedicated router.
