Apple Intelligence and iPhone 17 Changes
As the release of the new, more personalized Siri has been delayed, Apple’s AI, Apple Intelligence, has become less effective and less capable than other AI functions. Memory changes on iPhone 16
In the last iPhone 16 series, the base model’s memory capacity was pushed to 8GB to support Apple Intelligence. In addition, the base memory capacity of the MacBook is increased to 16GB, and the MacBook Pro is increased to 24GB. However, the positive impact of Apple Intelligence seems to continue. According to a new report by Ming-Chi Kuo, a professional Apple analyst, at least three models in the iPhone 17 series will feature 12G RAM. Previous research had predicted that 12GB models in the iPhone 17 series will be limited to the iPhone 17 Pro Max models.
iPhone 17 expected to have 12GB RAM
According to recent industry research, Apple will be equipped with 12GB of RAM in three models of the iPhone 17 Pro, Pro Max, and the ultra-slim ‘Air‘ model to be released in the second half of the year. On the other hand, the iPhone 17 base model was upgraded last season, so it is expected to be equipped with 8GB in this model.
If the iPhone 17 series is released with a Plus model, as with previous series, the iPhone 17 Plus will likely have 8GB, just like the basic model. However, the fact that the iPhone 17 Air has 12GB suggests that the Air model is a higher-end model than the Plus model.
Shortage of supply and future prospects
However, it is said that 12GB is not finalized yet. Due to the large volume of iPhone production, there is a possibility of supply shortage, so the specifications will be finalized in May. If the upgrade goes ahead this year, it is expected that the iPhone 18 series will upgrade to 12GB of RAM only for the base model next year, and 12GB will remain the same for the rest of the models. Also, due to Micron’s small shipping base, SK Hynix is likely to be the main supplier.
