hello. This is Technologytodaynow. There is a lot of news about the 20th anniversary iPhone, which will be released in 2027. It seems that Apple is planning to make a full change to the iPhone through the 20th anniversary iPhone.
iPhone 18 Pro Expected to Revamp Bold Design

Looking at previous reports from Bloomberg News, Apple noted that it is working on a bold new iPhone Pro model to mark the 20th anniversary of the iPhone and expects a major overhaul, such as redesigning the design using glass materials more extensively. However, it was recently claimed that the overhaul would also include Face ID. Bloomberg News reporter Mark Gurman reported that the iPhone, which will be released in 2026 or 2027, is expected to have a smaller-sized dynamic island.
In other words, smaller sized dynamic islands could be applied to the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, or iPhone 19 Pro Max, which is expected to be released as early as the next year. To implement such a system, a TrueDepth system with Face ID support must be hidden under the display.
Changes in Dynamic Islands
The smaller notch and dynamic island of the previous iPhone 13 were also able to be reduced in size by placing an externally exposed proximity sensor or illuminance sensor under the display. The key to the smaller dynamic island is whether the Face ID works well while hiding the TrueDepth system under the display. If that happens, it is expected to improve visibility significantly like the small punch-hole camera on the Android smartphone. These predictions have been made since 2023.
According to an iPhone display roadmap done by Display Supply Chain Consultants, the pill-type punch hole, a single punch hole that hides the face ID under the display after what is now Dynamic Island, and a full-screen UDC that hides the face ID under the display after that. As originally planned, the single punch hole that hides the face ID will reportedly be included in the iPhone 17 Pro lineup, which is scheduled to be released this year, but in March 2024, DSCC announced the delay in the release of the single punch hole.
iPhone 18 Pro Expects No Big Weakness
For Apple, which chose facial recognition over fingerprint recognition, the notch and pill-type punch hole served as a noticeable drawback compared to Android smartphones that valued visibility. However, if visibility improves, there will be no major weaknesses in Face ID. Whether this will be the main selling point of the iPhone 18 Pro or whether Apple will introduce a single punch hole along with other large-scale reorganizations to celebrate its 20th anniversary on the iPhone 19, we will have to wait and see what Apple does in the future.
