iPhone 17 Pro keeps dynamic island instead of single punch hole

hello. This is Technologytodaynow. In this post, we’ll be sharing the latest iPhone 17 Pro design updates.

Introducing the iPhone 17 Pro Display and Meta Lens

Display changes on iPhone 17 Pro

One of the biggest changes to the iPhone 17 Pro is that the display design will change to reduce the size of the Dynamic Island. Previous reports suggest that the oval Dynamic Island will remain, but the single punch-hole camera design is still unlikely to be adopted. This is because Apple was hoping to hide the Face ID and 3D camera through under-display (UD) technology, but the technology has been pushed back to 2026.

As such, the iPhone 17 Pro, which is expected to be released in 2025, is still expected to use the oval dynamic island, but will likely adopt a less intrusive design to increase the aspect ratio.

Introducing Meta Lens and reducing the size of dynamic islands

According to a recent report, the iPhone 17 Pro will feature meta-lens technology to reduce display distractions. According to Jeff Pu’s analysis, the iPhone 17 Pro’s dynamic island will be reduced in size while retaining Face ID and front-facing camera functionality, which will improve the user experience in a way that won’t distract from it.

Meta-lens is said to improve optical performance while reducing size by applying nanostructured materials. This is expected to maximize the aspect ratio of the Dynamic Island while reducing its size without compromising functionality. So while it won’t have a single punch hole like an Android smartphone, it will be less intrusive than it is now.

Improved camera and performance upgrades

The other major change in the iPhone 17 Pro is the camera performance. The telephoto camera resolution is expected to be upgraded to 48 megapixels, and all three camera lenses will be 48 megapixels. This should provide a better photo and video shooting experience than before, and the RAM will also be increased to 12GB, so expect a big improvement in performance.

Underdisplayed Face IDs coming in 2026

Apple started with Face ID and the notch starting with the iPhone 10 and reduced the size of the notch in the iPhone 13 Pro, released four years later. The dynamic island would shrink in size three years after the iPhone 14 Pro.

The iPhone 17 Pro is not expected to feature under-display Face ID yet, but if it does come in 2026, we can expect to see advancements in the notch, dynamic island, and ultimately the single punch hole. However, the iPhone 17 Air is rumored to be dropping the 12GB and reduced Dynamic Island, which will be a bit of a disappointment for those hoping for a slimmer iPhone.
