hello. This is Technologytodaynow. There was recent news that the camera of the Galaxy S26 series will be upgraded, so let’s take a closer look.
Galaxy S26 Ultra Camera Expected to Improve Image Quality
One of the disappointing things about the Galaxy S25 series is that the camera specifications are not much different from the previous model. The Ultra model’s ultra-wide-angle camera has been upgraded to 50 megapixels, but since the ultra-wide-angle lens is used less frequently than other angles of view, it is disappointing that it would have been possible to experience a greater experience if other lenses had been upgraded.
This is why many users are waiting for the iPhone 16 Pro, which has an improved ultra-wide-angle lens to 48 megapixels, and the iPhone 17 Pro, which has a telephoto camera that is expected to be upgraded to 48 megapixels. For those who feel sorry that the camera upgrade is limited to ultra-wide-angle lenses, it would be a good choice to expect the Galaxy S26 Ultra.
Galaxy S26 Ultra Camera Upgrade
According to a report by SamMobile, the Galaxy S26 Ultra will be equipped with a periscope camera with a 200-megapixel resolution. Samsung is reportedly currently testing the periscope camera to embed a 200-megapixel image sensor. The image sensor under test is 1/1.5-inch in size, and since there is no 1/1.5-inch 200-megapixel sensor in the ISOCELL series announced by Samsung LSI, it seems that it is being tested with a new image sensor that has yet to be released.
Comparison with competitors
Currently, smartphones released by Chinese manufacturers already have a periscope camera with a resolution of 200 megapixel. Vivo’s X100 Ultra and X200 Pro models come with a periscope camera using Samsung’s 1/1.4 inch 200-megapixel ISOCELL HP9 sensor, while Xiaomi’s new smartphone, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, scheduled to be released in February, will also feature Samsung’s 200-megapixel ISOCELL sensor. The first product to feature a 200-megapixel sensor on the main camera was Motorola, not Samsung, which also applied to other manufacturers’ smartphones before the Galaxy.
Advantages of a 200-megapixel periscope camera
However, the difference is that the 200MP of the main camera did not take that long, but it took more than a year for the periscope camera to be equipped with 200MP. What you can expect from the periscope camera being equipped with a high-resolution image sensor is clarity, and you can expect a clearer zoom camera even when magnified and cropped.
The Galaxy S26 Ultra is expected to feature a silicon carbon battery and a 200MP periscope camera, marking a significant upgrade. The reason the Galaxy S25 series is anticipated to be regarded as a masterpiece is due to production yield issues at Samsung Foundry, which made it impossible to use the Exynos chipset, resulting in the exclusive use of the Snapdragon chipset. Ironically, for the Galaxy S26 series to become another masterpiece, the situation with Exynos must not improve.
