Thinner Galaxy Z Fold 7 Expected Design

hello. This is Technologytodaynow. At the Galaxy Unpacked event in the second half of this year, the expected design rendering of Samsung’s flagship foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Fold 7, was revealed through Android headlines. We’ll take a closer look at it in this article.

Galaxy Z Fold 7 Expected Design Revealed

Galaxy Z Fold 7 Expected Design Revealed

If you look at the Galaxy Fold 7 design renders released, the rear camera design and texture are similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 6, but the overall frame looks similar to the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition. The vertically arranged triple and oval camera bumps remained the same, but the camera ring was removed in a year due to poor response from the camera ring.

In addition, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is 9.5mm thick when folded and 4.5mm when unfolded, 1.1mm thinner than the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and 0.4mm thinner than the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition. Although the recently unveiled ultra-slim foldable smartphone, the Oppo Find N5, is slightly thicker compared to the 4.2mm thickness, there is not much difference compared to the previous Fold series.

S Pen Features and Display Size

The reason for the thinning is said to be because the digitizer that recognizes the S Pen has been removed. Therefore, it is not yet clear whether the S Pen feature will be completely removed like the special edition, or whether the AES-style Fold-only S Pen will be released separately. In addition, the display size is larger than the special edition as well as the Fold 6. The main display is 8.2 inches and the cover display is 6.5 inches, which is definitely larger than the 7.6 inches / 6.3 inches Fold, and is expected to be slightly larger than the 8.0 inches / 6.5-inch Special Edition.

If this happens, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 could potentially become the model with the largest display on the market. Currently, the foldable smartphone with the largest display is Oppo Find’s N5, which measures 8.12 inches.

Galaxy Z Fold 7 Size Change

As the display size has grown, the overall size is also expected to grow. The Fold 7 will be 158.4mm long, 143.1mm wide, and 4.5mm thick, which will be 4.8mm long and 10.5mm wide compared to the Fold 6. Compared to the Special Edition, the width and length sizes have increased, and the thickness is thinner.

It’s noteworthy that the width is significantly wider, especially compared to Fold 6.
Although the exact display ratio has not been revealed yet, this seems to be to improve the usability of the cover display. Seeing that the width gets wider with each new Fold model released every year, it seems that the cover display is as important as the display when using a foldable smartphone.

Estimated Specs and Release Schedule

Here’s a look at the specs. While some regions are rumoured to use the Exynos 2500, Android headlines expect to feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite exclusively, just like its predecessor. However, there’s also the possibility that it will feature a 7-core Snapdragon 8 Elite customized for foldable smartphones, such as the Oppo Find N5. Battery capacity is expected to remain at 4,400mAh, and the camera will feature a 200-megapixel camera that was installed in the special edition.

The expected release date is expected to be mid-July. The design of this Galaxy Z Fold 7 seems to still lag behind when compared to foldable smartphones made in China. The thickness is a bit thicker, and it is expected to make a big difference, especially in battery performance. However, most consumers who want to buy foldable smartphones in Korea are likely to opt for the Galaxy Fold.

Conclusion

Comparing Fold 6 and Fold 7, you can see that significant progress has been made. Just as the cover display grew when moving from Fold 1 to Fold 2, I think the change from Fold 6 to Fold 7 will be greatly felt. The growth of the foldable smartphone market has been slowed down by the sluggish Galaxy Fold, and I wonder if the Galaxy Z Fold 7 can signal a revival.
