What is the difference between the leaked iPhone 17 Air design and the Galaxy S25 Edge

hello. This is Technologytodaynow. The rear design of the iPhone 17 Air has leaked, and I’m going to take a closer look in this posting.

Competition with Galaxy S25 Edge

During the Galaxy One-Pack event in the first half of 2025, Samsung revealed the Galaxy S25 series, signaling a new product announcement at the end of the event. The new product is the Galaxy S25 Edge, which is a slimmer version of the Galaxy S25. Although it does not have an edge display, it has been named ‘Edge’, and was expected to be a lighter version of the ultra model, but the S25 Edge has been unveiled in a completely different direction.

The main camera is expected to come in 200 megapixels, and it is not expected to feature an ALop periscope camera that minimizes camera bumps by reducing the size of the camera module. According to the Digital Chat Station, the battery will have a capacity of 3,900 mAh. Therefore, it is likely to be a lightweight model that focuses on reducing thickness and weight, rather than a lightweight Ultra. A similar concept iPhone model will also be released in the second half of the year.

The tentatively named iPhone 17 Air (or Slim) will replace the existing Plus model. Initially, we thought it would be a lightweight Ultra model, so we didn’t expect direct competition with the Galaxy S25 Edge, but if the Galaxy S25 Edge is released like this, competition between the two models will be inevitable. A major competitive factor will be how thin and lightweight the design will be, and how long the battery life can be extended while maintaining the design. In addition to these factors, photos have been released that look like there will likely be competition in various aspects.

A photo of a supposed iPhone 17 Air rear plate part was released via the IT tipster Majin Bu (@MajinBuOfficial). In this photo, an oval camera bump, similar to Google’s Pixel series, is located at the top of the rear, spreading from side to side. There is a hole on the left that looks like the camera lens will fit, and on the right, there is a hole that is expected to be equipped with an LED flash. There are constant rumors that the iPhone 17 series will change to such a horizontal camera design, and this photo adds credibility to such rumors.

Differences from Google Pixel and other models

The difference from the Pixel is that its camera position is located slightly lower, not at the top of the rear. On the other hand, in this design, which is believed to be the iPhone 17 Aero, the camera is placed at the top. It is similar to Google’s Nexus 6P, which was manufactured by Huawei in the past.

If you want to take advantage of this design, the fact that the camera is positioned flat when you place the phone at your desk or somewhere else so it doesn’t rattle can be an advantage. The Galaxy S25’s edge design is similar to the Galaxy Fold’s camera with a single lens missing and the iPhone 16’s with an LED flash moved down, but I think it’s a lower compatible design than the original. However, looking at the photo of the iPhone 17 Air’s parts, I think it’s a bit of a disappointment.

Expectations and concerns

Of course, I think I need to see the actual product to make an accurate judgment, but I’m worried about this part picture alone at the moment. I’m worried about whether Apple’s luxurious finish will make the design work. Recently, a mockup picture of the iPhone SE 4 was leaked, and it was very nice to have only one camera lens reminded me of the beautiful design of my old iPhone.

The iPhone 17 Air is also said to have a single camera, so there were expectations that it would recreate the cool iPhone look of the past, but the more news comes, the more regrettable it becomes. I wonder how the design competition between the Galaxy S25 Edge and the iPhone 17 Air will unfold.
