hello. This is Technologytodaynow. Market research firm Counterpoint Research recently conducted a survey of about 4,000 iPhone users in major Apple markets, including the U.S., China, the U.K., and India, on smartphone usage and purchasing patterns, and previously used smartphones, which we’ll learn more about in this post.
Changes in iPhone, Galaxy, and Smartphone Markets

Features of iPhone Pro Users
The survey drew some notable findings. In particular, an analysis of iPhone Pro users found that consumers who buy the iPhone Pro tend to replace their smartphones with shorter cycles than those who use the base model.
According to the survey, iPhone Pro users spend an average of 2.75 years using the device and then replacing it, while base model users spend an average of 3.15 years using it. This means there are more device lovers among pro model users than among those who want to ‘buy good products and use them for a long time.’ Among iPhone Pro users, 45 percent believe they are an innovator and 25 percent believe they are early adopters.
Galaxy users’ iPhone conversion rate

In addition, consumers who have been continuously purchasing iPhones are more likely to switch to pro models at some point after using the base model. They say they want to quickly experience Apple’s latest features and gain an edge in Apple’s ecosystem. What’s interesting is that 48% of the users in the survey switched to iPhones after using Android smartphones in the past. By 2018, iOS accounted for 20% of the global smartphone operating system share, but according to recent statistics, iOS’s share is closer to 30%.
iPhone ranked No. 1 in overall smartphone sales last year
Research by some research institutes has shown that in 2024, Apple topped not only premium smartphones but also overall smartphone sales. As a result, iOS’s share is expected to continue to grow. Samsung and Google are among the hardest hit by the increasing transition from Android to iOS. Since Samsung is a leader in Android, the transition from Android premium smartphones to iOS will primarily be Galaxy to iPhone. That trend is likely to continue for at least the next two years.
iPhone Sales Outlook
In addition, as sales of pro models increase in major markets, the supply of pro models in the used phone market is expected to increase over the next two to three years. This is expected to contribute to addressing the supply shortage in the used market, and the premiumization of iPhones will have a positive impact on sales growth.
Many users of Android phones in the past are switching to iOS, and many of them are more likely to opt for more expensive pro models than basic models after a certain point in time. And pro model users tend to switch devices in shorter cycles to experience Apple’s new technology faster, meaning iPhones are a great deal of satisfaction for them.
Conclusion
Each time the iPhone is released, it sells about 150 million units, so if you don’t satisfy the consumer, such sales are impossible. If we don’t release only strange products like the iPhone 16e, we’ll be able to keep the consumer’s reaction stable.
From a consumer’s point of view, I hope the design of the iPhone 17 comes out well and the price does not increase significantly.
