hello. This is Technologytodaynow. Overall, the iPhone 16 series has seen a decline in sales of the Pro lineup and an increase in sales of the regular and Plus models. There are a number of factors that could favor the regular models, including the same A18 chip as the Pro lineup, increased RAM to 8GB, support for Apple Intelligence, and a revised design. However, the regular lineup has always had some major drawbacks that have held us back. The biggest one is the 60Hz display. But it looks like next year’s iPhone 17 series might really be different.
iPhone 17 Series LTPO OLED Application and Promotional Display Application
One of the biggest changes for the iPhone 17 series is the expansion of LTPO OLED. Ross Yaoun, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultant, revealed via MacRumors that the promotion will be extended to the iPhone 17 Slim, tentatively titled iPhone 17 Air, which will replace the iPhone 17 and Plus models.
Apple’s promotional displays first appeared on the iPad Pro and then on the iPhone 13 Pro in 2021. This was made possible by the expansion of the Apple-developed LTPO OLED, first seen in the Apple Watch 4, to the iPhone 13 Pro. Previously revealed display roadmaps for the iPhone indicate that LTPO OLED will be extended to the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air, just as it was extended to the regular and Plus models in the Galaxy S24 series.
What is LTPO OLED?
LTPO OLED technology uses Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide, which has the advantage of being able to adjust the refresh rate of the display while reducing battery consumption. The iPhone has been using this technology since the 13 Pro, with a variable refresh rate from 10Hz to 120Hz. This has had a positive impact on battery life.
Promotional support for iPhone 17 Air lightweight models
Another notable addition to the iPhone 17 series is the iPhone 17 Air (tentatively titled). This model will replace the existing Plus model and is expected to have a lighter design and support for the Promise feature. The Promise is an increase in the screen refresh rate up to 120Hz, which will provide smoother screen transitions and a better user experience when gaming or watching videos.
Entry-level model with 120Hz refresh rate?
The iPhone 17 series is expected to support 120Hz refresh rateeven in the cheaper entry-level models. This feature is expected to be a big hit with users as it is now available on entry-level models. However, we don’t know yet if the variable refresh rate will range from 10 to 120Hz like the iPhone 13 Pro, or if it will go down to 1Hz like the iPhone 14 Pro. With the iPhone 17, it’s possible that 120Hz will be introduced to the iPad Air and MacBook Air in the future.
